Artificial Intelligence in Education: A Systematic Review

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most influential technologies transforming modern education systems. The integration of AI technologies such as machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing has enabled the development of intelligent learning environments that improve teaching efficiency and enhance student learning outcomes. AI-powered educational systems including intelligent tutoring systems, automated grading tools, adaptive learning platforms, and educational chatbots are increasingly being adopted by educational institutions worldwide. This review paper examines the role of Artificial Intelligence in education by analyzing its core technologies, major applications, benefits, and challenges. A systematic literature review methodology was adopted to analyze previously published studies related to AI-based educational technologies. The findings indicate that AI technologies support personalized learning, improve student engagement, and enable data-driven decision making in educational institutions. However, several challenges such as data privacy concerns, high implementation costs, and the need for technical expertise must be addressed.


The paper further discusses future research directions and highlights the potential of AI to create more intelligent, adaptive, and efficient education systems. Overall, Artificial Intelligence is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of education and transforming the way knowledge is delivered and accessed. This review analyzes 30 research articles published between 2010 and 2024 using a systematic literature review methodology.
